MISSION
To build sustainable systems of resilience in our community so all may survive and thrive.
VISION
Finding science-based solutions will be crucial to solving our sustainability problems. Leap Lab Florida will engage the Treasure Coast community with projects and expeditions that will demonstrate concepts enabling citizens to make better, evidence-based decisions. We will grapple with important 21st-century issues such as climate change, water resources, food production, new energy sources, waste stream concerns, and the intersections between these concepts to forge a sustainable path not only for our generation but subsequent generations.
RESILIENCE EXPEDITION 2024
We are planning a research expedition to study microplastics between Ft. Pierce, Florida and Cape Eleuthera, Bahamas. 10 students will join the crew for the adventure of a lifetime!
Together with Indian River State College, Leap Lab Florida conducted an ambitious 64-week bioplastics biodegradation study across three states to help move the needle toward more sustainable options beyond the PE products of the 20th century.

Leap Lab Florida and Leap Lab Eastern Wyoming Nature Center conduct Paleo Camp expeditions annually north of Lusk, Wyoming, near the South Dakota border. Indian River State College Professor Robert Lowery and the first IRSC student participant identified Cretaceous dinosaur fossils this past year, including a Triceratops skull with horn and a T. Rex tooth. Leap Lab Florida is working with IRSC to include a group of local students in this expedition every July.
